As we age fine lines and wrinkles develop on the skin, our skin cell turnover becomes slow and sluggish and the complexion lacks vibrancy. Skin can appear dull and lacklustre with pigmentation marks and large pores. Oily skin with blocked pores may cause spots and acne and visible acne scarring may also be present. This can affect our confidence and well-being.
Fortunately there are treatments available to help overcome these skin problems and a peel is a fantastic introduction to the world of aesthetic treatments.
A skin peel is a specialised medical lotion which, when applied to the skin, softens the bonds between the surface layers allowing different levels of exfoliation. Each peel protocol and strength, can be tailored to your particular need. The peel will increase skin cell turn-over, revealing fresh, new layers of the skin, giving a radiant and healthy complexion.
The peel is a pharmaceutical grade and should be administered only by a fully qualified practitioner. It can be beneficial in treating a range of skin problems including acne and acne scarring, hyper pigmentation and freckles, fine lines and wrinkles and can brighten tired looking skin. The system uses a combination of salicylic, lactic and fruit acid and a high level of other active ingredients combined with rich antioxidants to ensure healthy plump skin with an instant noticeable result. A course of 6 treatments is recommended for the maximum benefit, starting with the gentlest peel and increasing in strength with each treatment if required.
The skin is at maximum moisture level at noon. The greatest water loss occurs between 10pm and midnight. During the day the skin constantly adjusts to activities and environmental changes. At night, the bodies repair system is stimulated to produce collagen and elastin, which are essential for healthy, youthful skin. Peels are targeted to support this process by stimulating the fibroblasts deep within the dermis. This encourages the skin to produce enhanced quality of collagen and elastin fibres, giving it a supple and youthful appearance. The thickness of the epidermis and papillary dermis increase. The outer layer of the skin gently flakes away revealing a more even skin tone which reflects the light.
Following a full Medical History and consultation, Medical Photographs will be taken. The treatment takes about 30 minutes. Your skin will be cleansed and a skin preparation lotion applied. The first layer of the peel will be painted onto the skin and left to dry for a few minutes before the second layer of peel is applied. During this time a tingling sensation will be experienced with some heat. After a few minutes the peel will be removed. The skin will be thoroughly cleansed again and a toning lotion administered to close the pours. Then a skin serum, rich in anti oxidants and vitamin C will be applied, following with a nourishing moisture lotion and sun block.
Following treatment the skin will appear quite pink initially. Please be aware that the outer layer has been removed so you may be more sensitive to heat than normal for the immediate time. The skin may also feel dry and tight for a day or two, this is perfectly normal and is nothing to worry about. You may apply moisture cream to alleviate this and can wear makeup as normal. Over the next few days you may experience some mild flaking of the skin, depending on the strength of the peel.
