My Covid-19 Vaccination Experience

My Covid-19 Vaccination Experience

I received my letter from the NHS last week, inviting me to book for my Covid-19 Vaccination. To be perfectly honest I didn’t feel overly enthusiastic about it at the time, but booked in anyway.

My local Vaccination Centre was The Liberty in Romford and I made my way there on Monday. The whole process was very professional and speedy. I had to give my booking reference number, answer a few questions and then received my AstraZeneca Vaccine into the top of my left arm. The injection itself stung slightly but wasn’t bad. I returned home and carried on as normal for the remainder of the day feeling fine.

I went to bed around 11pm and during the night I experienced some of the common side effects listed in my leaflet namely a low grade fever and mild flu like symptoms, which disrupted my sleep. Yesterday morning I woke feeling very groggy and tired with a slight headache. I took Paracetamol as advised and this helped a lot. However I continued to feel exhausted all day as my body developed antibodies and so I went to bed at 6pm last night. This time I had a good night sleep and feel much better today (Wednesday) so I am hopeful that tomorrow I will be as right as rain again.

Being a Registered Nurse I am especially pleased that I have had the Vaccination now. I would advise everyone to have this, but to allow themselves a few days to recover, perhaps book time off work or have it at the weekend. I feel that my patients will be safer and more confident to see me in the future. At the time of writing this, approximately 30 million people in the UK have received their first dose, that is over half of the adult population. I am optimistic that the lockdown in the UK will be over soon as more and more of us become protected, and life can begin to return to some type of normality. Also there is a glimmer of hope that we may be able to go abroad this summer which I am pinning all my hopes on. I can see myself with a Pina Colada on a beach somewhere…………
